5 Selena Gomez Facts Every Fan Should Know

Who doesn't know Selena Gomez? If somebody says they've never heard of her, they're lying―or jealous. Or both!

Born to actress Mandy Dawn Teefey, Selena Gomez was named after the legendary Latino singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez. That is quite a standard to live up to! But Selena has proved her mettle everywhere, from the music industry to advocating for social causes.

Even though she's only 29, she's achieved a lot. She's put out three studio albums, released thirty-three singles, starred in various movies and TV shows, and even produced a hit Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, which ran for two seasons.

While we all wait for Selena's third album, we've compiled a list of facts all Selenators should know about their idol:

1. Youngest UNICEF Ambassador

In 2009, Selena became the youngest UNICEF ambassador at 17. Although Millie Bobbi Brown only recently was awarded the title, Selena's social work with UNICEF has impacted many underprivileged communities to be provided with access to healthcare, food, and water.

She also has her own production house, called July Moonhead Productions.

3. Her Lupus Diagnosis

In 2015, Selena revealed in an interview that she was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disorder, and had been undergoing chemotherapy. In 2017, her best friend donated her kidney to Selena, as her kidney function was being threatened by the condition.

4. Production House
