Nicki Minaj and Cardi B’s latest feuds have had all the makings of the perfect catfight that society craves—from a physical altercation wearing couture gowns to an alleged leak of private phone numbers, we’ve seen it all. The only thing missing is these rap gods creating a diss track for each other, but that’s not really necessary in our current social media-driven era.
Here’s all you need to know to get up to date with their drama:
Back on October 28, 2018, Cardi’s sister, Hennessy Carolina, accused Nicki of purposefully leaking the rapper’s phone number to her own fan clubs so they could harass Cardi, which Nicki denied. She claimed that the sisters were trying to make her look like a bad person and commented that Cardi isn’t able to control her own sister while expecting Nicki to be able to control millions of her fans.
Unsurprisingly striking a nerve in Cardi, this led to her posting 10 videos on Instagram addressing her fellow rapper where she talked about the narrative that Nicki is trying to construct and whether her role in this feud is that of an aggressor or victim. She also talked about Nicki’s jealousy of Cardi’s success and how Nicki has picked up deals for advertisements, which she apparently turned down. All of the videos ran up to 8 minutes in total and later got deleted.
Nicki Minaj is very familiar with public fights—from clashes with Taylor Swift and arguments with Miley Cyrus, Nicki is almost synonymous with the word “feud.”
According to industry gurus, the music industry either doesn’t know how to or refuses to support different female emcees, continuously perpetuating the idea that they’re volatile and jealous. Unfortunately, as fans hung on to every harsh word and dramatic tweet, the interest only encouraged the participants to fight for their entertainment.
A stan usually refers to an extremely obsessed fan, often displaying petty or abhorrent behavior—and Nicki Minaj knows that. For a stan, their idol can never do anything wrong and they are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that their favorite artist is seen as the absolute best. This led to fans furiously combatting any negative comments against her while harassing the ‘enemy,’ further escalating the situation.
