Lil Wayne, also known as Dr. Carter, Lil’ Weezy, or Lil Tune, is one of the greatest hip-hop artists of our time. He’s an actor, entrepreneur, songwriter, record executive, singer, and rapper. His career started all the way back in 1996 at the age of 13. He was discovered by Birdman, who brought him over to Cash Money Records to make him the label’s youngest ever member.
Lil Wayne reached the peak of his popularity in the year 2004 through the help of his fourth album, as well as an appearance on Destiny’s Child’s ‘Soldier.’ His success surpassed even that of Elvis Presley’s, with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012.
Here are some of his best songs:
Weezy’s confident and electric persona led him to create the seductive and slow track ‘Shooter’ from the album Rebirth. The song features Robin Thicke and has a rather slow and sexy buildup that’s the opposite of his usual sobering tones.
Dough is What I Got
‘Dough is What I Got’ is a mixtape that savagely flips Jay-Z’s ‘Show Me What You Got.’ Rap battle lines used to be drawn between Lil Wayne’s Cash Money generation and Jay-Z’s mafioso traditions. Lil Weezy took a great shot through Dough is What I Got, making quite an impression on hip hop fans.
The Block Is Hot
Lil Wayne has been rapping for more than 20 years, but many of his earlier tracks are still among his best songs. ‘The Block Is Hot’ was initially released in 1999, when Lil Wayne was only 17 years old. He was dropping bars and burns that were worth way more than anyone else double his age could compete with at the time.
While Lil Wayne hasn’t always been political in his raps or songs, he made heads turn with this track. Old heads got turned off due to his relentless opulence, with the song talking about the injustices borne by people of color in the United States. This song proves how amazing the rapper is at using his fame and power for a good cause.
