The Complete Timeline Of Drake’s Rise To Stardom

Aubrey Drake Graham, better known as just Drake in the music industry, is one of the most unlikely sovereigns of rap music. With more than 10 No.1 projects, he’s outsold many of the classics like Eminem, Jay-Z, and Tupac. His most recent album, “Certified Lover Boy,” gained enormous commercial success. How did this Canadian rapper and singer who used to be a child actor break so many records and win several Grammys?

Here’s all you need to know:

He was born in 1986

Drake’s parents had a rather deep background in music. His grandmother was Louie Armstrong’s babysitter, while his dad drummed for Jerry Lee Lewis. Drake knew he wasn’t the first in his family to embrace the beauty of music, but he wanted to be the first icon and eventually used his middle name as a stage name.

He grew up poor

The star wasn’t always covered in gold and riches—Drake’s mother was a teacher who eventually got bedridden because of various health issues. He grew up very poor even though he spent some of his adolescent years in an affluent neighborhood known as Forest Hill.

Drake has often spoken rather proudly of his Jewish heritage. He said that his mother didn’t have much money to host a Bar Mitzvah, and he promised himself he’d throw himself a proper one when he got rich. His HYFR music video has scenes reenacting his Bar Mitzvah for this reason.

He used to write song lyrics in his teens

Drake started getting into a hip-hop phase around the age of 17. He studied flows and learned about lyrics while writing down ideas for songs. He keeps his old notes around for the nostalgia, but we’re sure there are some fiery verses in there.

He started pursuing music in 2008

Drake left the show “Degrassi” after the 8th season. He claimed that he got ‘kicked off’ because of his busy schedule. The producers realized he was juggling two different professions and made him choose only one. He released “So Far Gone” under his own label but wasn’t very sure about its success.

He’d been on the verge of getting a regular job to get some earnings, but the lead single instantly got popular and got nominated for two Grammys. Drake’s career has only been uphill from here.
