The rising 24-year-old Florida rapper surfs affably on TikTok trends and sounds exactly like a label executive’s idea of the future.

The short tracks vary dramatically across this album but together fuse as an exquisite confession of a prodigy. Dominic Fike does not want to confine himself into one delegated space and What Could Possibly Go Wrong reflects that perfectly.

Everyone should be able to find a song they enjoy with the versatility of this album. From orchestral string pieces to alternative rap and rock, this album has a little bit of everything. It was really interesting to hear parts of Dominic Fike’s backstory and “come-up” through the lyrics of these songs.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong will be a summer soundtrack for the 24-year-old’s Gen Z fanbase who, like Fike, feel carefree in the moment yet nihilistic about their future. It offers insight into the untrammelled spirit of an artist on the rise, one reassuringly unencumbered by expectations.

His debut album has been 3 years in the making, and Dominic Fike shows he has a lot of momentum to keep going, all the while backflipping and sniffing lavender. There is something so compelling about him as a human being, and it will be very interesting to see where he goes from here as an artist. With this carefree go-with-the-flow music-making mindset… What could possibly go wrong?

What Could Possibly Go Wrong is the tongue-in-cheek title of his excellent debut, a record that reflects the same dark sense of humor as his Apple logo tattoo inked in the place where a teardrop traditionally goes.

To conclude, while not entirely awful this Dominic Fike album was disappointing. It wasn't like his EP which was punchy, catchy and entertaining, it was just for half of it tedious and at times you question the artistic choices he's making. 5/10
