The 17-minute release compresses the Toronto punk band’s infectious feel-bad energy into 5 new ragers and one cover.

this record really is; a reminder of how fun music can be. Sure, it’s not as joyous as Morbid Stuff, but for a stopgap to keep fans going in these bewildering times, it does the job nicely.

The pop-punk band’s six-track follow-up to last year’s Morbid Stuff invites listeners to sit with pain of their own, to study it, and, of course, to scream through it.

the blistering energy, unrelenting self-deprecation, and outright quality of PUP’s output keeps This Place Sucks Ass from feeling inconsequential. Even if they didn’t fit on Morbid Stuff, there is not an appreciable dip in the overall quality of the tracks. PUP’s odds-and-ends can easily stand with the best of what pop punk has to offer and there’s been no better year for this sort of nihilistic, neurotic punk.

‘This Place Sucks Ass’, but this EP sure as hell doesn’t. The title of PUP‘s latest EP is definitely poignant to how the majority of people feel about the world these days, and it’s perfectly engulfed into these six songs.

The EP refuses to read as a naive “we’re gonna get through this just fine” narrative, but instead is painfully truthful.

Yes, this place in time right now does suck ass for just about everybody — but PUP's latest EP certainly doesn't suck any ass, like at all. Quite the opposite, really: It rocks ass. It's the musical equivalent of a thrilling roller coaster ride through a hellish landscape, injecting a much-needed dose of fun in otherwise dark days.

2020 most definitely sucks ass but PUP’s new EP doesn’t – at least that’s a good thing to take from this clusterfuck of a year.
