The Fame

The Fame is the debut studio album by American singer Lady Gaga. It was released on August 19, 2008, by Interscope Records. After joining Kon Live Distribution and Cherrytree Records in 2008, Gaga began working on the album with different producers, primarily RedOne, Martin Kierszenbaum and Rob Fusari. Musically, The Fame is an electropop, synth-pop, and dance-pop album that displays influences from music from the 1980s. Lyrically, the album visualizes Gaga's love of fame in general while also dealing with subjects such as love, sex, money, drugs and sexual identity. The album was primarily promoted through The Fame Ball Tour and multiple television appearances. The Fame was reissued as a deluxe edition with The Fame Monster on November 18, 2009. -Wikipedia

  • The Guardian

Of all the synthesiser-toting singer-songwriters allegedly set to rescue the nation from the dreariness of landfill indie in 2009, New York's Lady GaGa is the most straightforward proposition.

The catchiness of her songs is sure to cement her place in the list of pop idols.

... luckily, the majority of the album is fueled by a glitter-laced, dance-inciting energy that bodes well for extended club play, which is really the whole point.

Christina Aguilera singing over Britney's Blackout? Kind of, but Lady GaGa is also a lot more fun than either of them at this dance stuff anyways.

There’s no denying that Gaga has tapped into the trash-obsessed zeitgeist, but The Fame fails to live up to all the glittery hype.

The Fame isn’t a defining moment in pop culture, but it is a promising sign for Lady GaGa, with plenty to dance to.

But listen a little closer to the sly, snarky lyrics and glam grooves on this feisty debut and you'll hear that this former downtown New York spice girl has at least a few things on her dirty mind.

  • The Fame is an album that gives zappy and poppy songs - some seemingly not cohesive to the rest of the album. Nonetheless, this album is experimental sounding and still with success. Able to creating an environment for messy, sparkle-fueled times, this album also gives a callback to pop music of the 80s and 90s with synthesizers and a little grit.  4/5
