relaxed, dreamy at times, the laid-back funk of the vocals resting on a deliciously liquid instrumental track like a body on a waterbed ... Wonder has produced another of the very best albums this year

just a wee bit short of perfection; everything is top quality, apart from one or two slightly weaker numbers

The artist breaks through and takes control, though not in that order. Suddenly he's writing better ballads than he used to choose, and not at any sacrifice of his endearing natural bathos

With signature harmonica squeals and whimsical clavinet underlying 10 gorgeously crafted songs, Wonder's sightless vision had created a truly beautiful world of golden ladies and deep faith with funky, jazzy songs that are unapologetically romantic and loving

2000 - The album crystallized Wonder's talent as a singer, writer and producer. He proved he could write grooves to keep you on the dance floor and, at the same time, make you think about social problems. And on the other side, he could melt your heart.

It remains a solid five star album and an essential release when exploring the mind and music of Stevie Wonder.

2008 - if released today, would be hailed as revolutionary. Talking Book, I think, is the best of those five essential Stevie albums, and, without resorting to hyperbole, all of them are worth owning and listening to weekly, at least.

While it doesn't flow together as well as Innervisions, the individual tracks are among Wonder's greatest work.
