This was the first album by the Beach Boys for which Brian Wilson was given full production credit, a position Wilson would maintain for the next few years. -WIKIPEDIA

Capitol pushed the Beach Boys for too much material in too short a time for the group to maintain as much quality control as would have been desirable. Consequently, most of their pre-1965 albums contain a high degree of filler, and thus stack up poorly next to those of such contemporaries as the Beatles, who were able to maintain high standards on almost all of their tracks.

the most important track on here regarding the future of the Beach Boys would have to be Side B, Track 1, entitled "In My Room."

The first album that really sounds like a Beach Boys album, and a good album it is too. There are moments of filler, yes. But there's also songs as utterly beautiful as 'In My Room' and 'Surfer Girl'.

I categorically love all the Wilson fronted songs here; not only the celebrated title track and the angsty ‘In My Room’, but also the lesser known ‘Surfer’s Moon’, a beautiful ’50s style ballad with a sweet Brian vocal and orchestration, and the sentimental ‘Your Summer Dream’.

2008- Surfer Girl remains an excellent effort by the Beach Boys. Brian Wilson seems focused and energized. His problems that would emerge later are not yet apparent. Surfer Girl is still worth seeking out and giving a listen even 45 years later.

2011- Their third studio album and the second of three in 1963 alone, Surfer Girl is the first Beach Boys album for which Brian Wilson was given full production credit – perhaps no coincidence, then, that it also happens to be their first to truly hint at wonders yet to come.
