ROCK AND ROLL OVER

Rock and Roll Over is the fifth studio album by American rock band Kiss, released in 1976. It was recorded at the Star Theatre, and in order to get the proper drum sound, Peter Criss recorded the drum tracks in a bathroom, communicating via video-link with the rest of the band. Criss' vocals are featured on the tracks "Baby Driver" and "Hard Luck Woman". Paul Stanley, who originally wanted the latter song to be sung by Rod Stewart, gave it to Criss, after Gene Simmons insisted Criss sing the song instead. -wikipedia

With a more immediate sound, KISS were able to present infectious rock songs, including “Take Me” and “Ladies Room” without sacrificing the raw power the band strived for

The result was the leaner and harder-edged Rock and Roll Over.

Rock and Roll Over gave Kiss another platinum album to hang on the wall. Their success, and their sound, had solidified. There was nowhere to go but up.

With a more direct, in-your-face production, Rock and Roll Over is one of Kiss' most consistent records. Two of the album's best tracks became hit singles

still stands up quite well 40 years later and remains one of KISS‘ best and most consistent — if not their most consistent — studio album based on a track by track basis

Stripped down to the bare essentials, Rock and Roll Over documents Kiss in their prime, plugging in as a perfect paragon of the band’s brand of heavy-duty glitter garage rock.

No production excesses, no showing off ..., and a somehow more diligent approach to songwriting. It's still a guilty pleasure, of course, as most of the songs are as dumb as required, but it is a guilty pleasure

Rock And Roll Over definitely has its high points, but it is the least essential album of their “classic” period.

Nevertheless, best album or not, this is a FUN record.

Those who dismiss them as unlistenable are still evading the issue: they write tough, catchy songs, and if they had a sly, Jagger-style singer they'd be a menace.

2012 - The guitars, druming, bass, and vocals on this devil may care record never cease to amaze me.

1997 - But this doesn't necessarily make Rock And Roll Over a bad album - it's just cut out of the same old mold the rest of their albums to that point (aw, who am I kidding - their whole catalog is like this) were. But it does make for an entertaining listen, at the very least.
