Niratias

Niratias (stylized in uppercase) is the ninth studio album by American rock band Chevelle, released on March 5, 2021. It was preceded by three singles: "Self-Destructor", "Peach", and "Remember when". The album was produced by Joe Barresi and is their first studio album in five years, the last being 2016's The North Corridor. Unlike previous Chevelle albums, Niratias is considered to be a concept album, using more instrumental and spoken word tracks, dealing with themes such as interstellar travel, mistrust in leadership, loss, and the past. -Wikipedia

Full disclosure, all thirteen tracks on this album are stand-alone chart-topping singles. The instrumentals paint a true picture of the intent of each song even before the vocals are heard. Chevelle once again has created a masterpiece proving that their relevance and longevity are everlasting.

The songs are just as tight as before and, unsurprisingly, even the standard ones have something interesting going on. Also, the production seems a tad more organic, which is suitable for this dynamic batch of tracks.

When fans dive into new Chevelle music, they know exactly what they’re getting and NIRATIAS is no exception. Here the band is playing to their strengths with some outliers of experimentation for fun. While there are some pitfalls on the lack of depth in the low-end, overall, this album delivers more of the same Chevelle core sound with a heady theme.

NIRATIAS marks a strong return for Chevelle, and is equally compelling as it is provocative.

It doesn’t always stack up to some of their classic albums but given the overall quality this is still a great showing for a band entering their twenty sixth year of existence.
