With so many strong songs, this album brings to mind the same creative spirit evident in mega-albums of the past that delivered hit after hit. Alice Merton is definitely one to watch.

Mint is as catchy as any album that has topped the pop charts over the last year, but it is a lot more than dance beats and pop hooks.

Merton shows great confidence in her abilities as an artist across her debut record, without losing her sense of fun.

A front-loaded set song-wise, it maintains an effervescence and living-room danceability that has the potential to charm the masses.

Listening to the album as a whole, there are diminishing returns from the certainty that a new gimmick is coming every eight bars. Pop songs live by their hooks; it’s no wonder that Merton’s debut album piles them on, eager to please.

  • When the Horn Blows

Alice Merton’s much anticipated debut album doesn’t only live up to the expectations created for its self by her autonomously released single, ‘No Roots’ that launched her career into the spotlight in December 2016 but in my opinion it surpasses them.

Overall this isn’t a bad album. I liked Alice’s vocals throughout it and for the most part the songs were good lyrically.

Her vocals are more heavy than a typical pop act, while she adds a depth that most pop acts cannot achieve.

She may not be reinventing the pop wheel, but at least she’s putting her own refreshing spin on it.

the majority of the tracks are just bops, and with that, most of the musical choices that Merton makes for this album helps her to stick out among the plethora of rising alternative artists in the seen.
