Jackson Wang shows a slice of his ever-evolving artistic mind as a soloist. MAGIC MAN starts off with a heavy focus on expressing the rawness of grungy and blues-rock-inspired sounds, but struggles to add to the genre. Fans of Got7, called Ahgases, will nonetheless see that Wang’s departure from his familiar sound paints a picture of growth for the Chinese artist.

Jackson is one of a handful. His attention to detail and commitment to improving himself, especially this year, demonstrate that he sees this limited window of opportunity very clearly, and is twisting and folding himself to make sure he can get through it in time. He does this because he has the vision to see what is on the other side, and believes that realising that vision will be worth all the hard work and sacrifice it might take. Magic Man is a glimpse of that vision.

This new album is full of chill vibes and honest truths. Magic Man has a lot of alternative and rock elements in the tracks, but there are a bit of R&B and Pop elements as well, which is a nice touch. Surprisingly, there are no features on this album, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing because Jackson is amazing all on his own. The album consists of 10 songs, so you can sit and vibe to the entire album in just 27 minutes.
