another quintessential Kiss release. Many of the songs have been forgotten over the years (few have been featured in concert after the '70s), but there are still more than a few gems to be found.

1975 - With twin guitars hammering out catchy mondo-distorto riffs and bass and drums amiably bringing up the rear, Kiss spews forth a deceptively controlled type of thunderous hysteria closely akin to the sound once popularized by the German panzer tank division.

Hotter Than Hell could easily score a 5/5 stars, but the sonics are impossible to simply ignore. Every time you listen to it, there are things that sound irritating ... But it was OK.

2010 - No knock on the actual songwriting or performances here; it’s the god-awful production sound that ruins it.

Surprisingly, they were able to write a fair number of catchy riffs, many of which are utterly dirty and perfectly trashy. But there was just one hitch, Kiss were still pretty terrible musicians - I guess they didn't have much time to take lessons in the eight months between the release of their debut album and this.

2012 - All in all, though this album didn't produce as many well known Kiss songs as the eponymous debut, this is a more mature (I know right?) album by Kiss and a much better effort.

2015 - Like a mastodon struggling through quicksand, Hotter Than Hell is darker, gloomier, heavier and more muscular than Kiss – with even worse production.

2007 - If it was stolen or lost I'm not sure if I'd buy it again. It's a good album but I don't know if I like it that much to be honest.

never even once breaks the 'keep it simple-stupid' credo and contains about the same percentage of absolute rock classics than a limited edition collection of raw demo versions of Frank Sinatra's earliest performances

Less generic r'n'r pishposh, more actual grit, meanness and catchiness.

Perhaps the oddest-sounding album Kiss ever recorded, Hotter Than Hell is also one of the most interesting.

2018 - It lacks the energy and bombast of later efforts, and just tends to drag along boringly with no real passion.
