Grateful Dead (Skull and Roses)

Grateful Dead is an album by rock band the Grateful Dead. Released in October 1971 on Warner Bros. Records, it is their second live double album. Although published without a title, it is generally known by the names Skull and Roses (due to its iconic cover art) and Skull Fuck (the name the band originally wanted to give to the album, which was rejected by the record company). It was the group's first album to be certified gold by the RIAA[and remained their best seller until surpassed by Skeletons from the Closet.-"Wikipedia"

    As opposed to their debut concert recording, Live/Dead (1969), this hour and ten minutes concentrates on newer material, which consisted of shorter self-contained originals and covers.

    It is filled up with covers from artists ranging from Merle Haggard to Chuck Berry. Bob Weir takes lead vocals on most of these tunes, and all of the covers (minus "Big Boss Man"). There are few originals in the bunch, but each are fabulous songs.

    the Dead can construct a masterful weave where everything seems to swirl around the next, and they’re at their finest here, spurred by the loving bite of Garcia’s guitar. Weir’s slap-dash rhythm, driven along by some of the finest bass playing on four planets, Mars and the asteroid belt included.
