the peak of the early, hard rock epoch of Rush, and I really think it belongs in any decent collection of 70's hard rock VERY GOOD

it consolidated Rush’s impending greatness on punchy heavy rockers like "Anthem" and the title cut, as well as on widescreen epics "In the End" and the eternal "By-Tor and the Snow Dog."

I can't actually be too down on it when the opening five songs are all as great as they are. And, they are. They make this album a more than worthy release, even with a couple of lesser songs to follow.

Enter Neil Peart. Enter sci-fi lyrics and cheap pocketbook fantasies. Enter complexity and pretentiousness.

2017 - a record that is more of a acquired taste, it's less catchy and not as heavy as there first record, but is still an above average release that is definitely worth listening to. In some ways it's better than their last album, and in some ways it's worse.

one of their most important -- it showed that the young band was leaving their Zep-isms behind in favor of a more challenging and original direction

Rush still composes down-to-earth catchy tunes on Fly by Night. You can hear the progressive edge to each song served up on the album.

2014 - it shows the band beginning to craft their own musical identity; who they are on vinyl for others to hear and enjoy. It’s still early, but the band will continue to hone their musical identity in the upcoming years.

2010 - It contains some very interesting music and as an evolution piece fits into their discography well, but you’d be best to try their later efforts for something far more fulfilling

with the exception of one extended suite and one acoustic folk tune, Fly By Night stayed pretty much within the heavy rock/blues bounds established on the debut album, but with a richer, hi-fidelity sound

diverse - ranging from bombastic kickasskickers, poppy little happytones, a medieval ballad, a slidey bluesy strummer that sounds like it could be a GOOD Doobie Brothers song

2018 - This album is a rock n roll classic. It took what the band had presented on their first album, and just improved it in every way.

a fun hard rock/progressive rock album that benefits from well-focused compositions and well-written lyricism

Nonetheless, many of these songs are fairly well written and, as virtuosos, these guys sound like they know what they're doing. And, there's nothing like listening to the electric guitar and drumming of people who know what they're doing!
