Cheek to Cheek

Cheek to Cheek is a collaborative album by American singers Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. It was released on September 19, 2014, by Interscope Records and Columbia Records. In 2011, Bennett and Gaga first met at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York City. After these two later recorded a rendition of "The Lady Is a Tramp", they began discussing plans for working on a jazz project. Cheek to Cheek consists of jazz standards by popular jazz composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and Irving Berlin. The album was inspired by Bennett and Gaga's desire to introduce the songs to a younger generation, since they believed that these tracks had universal appeal. -Wikipedia

Gaga thought about calling it quits, but as it turns out, Mother Monster just needed a grandpa figure to put things in perspective.

Purposefully evoking a time long past, rather than recreating it, it is not an album of great ambition, nor one of great importance in the grand scheme of things.

Lady Gaga’s classical training has always been key to her origin story, so this album with 88-year-old crooner Tony Bennett is no big surprise.

What’s perhaps the most surprising about Cheek to Cheek is its ability to bring the aloof and complicated Lady Gaga down to earth.

  • Lady Gaga's voice translates extremely well into a duet album with Tony Bennett. Full of fun and a beautiful blend of their voices, Cheek to Cheek is a warm album. This album is full of an energy that both singers must've had for each other in the creation of it - it all works and clicks together oh so beautifully.  5/5
