It's hard to argue that the generalized romantic sentiments that make up the lyrics, here contributed by a variety of people including Augeri and Cain's wife, are any worse than Perry's, but Perry sang his words with more feeling than Augeri does.

Arrival is dense and smoothly produced with a hint of hard-rock heft and catchy hooks a-plenty. But just because it’s formulaic doesn’t mean it lacks conviction.

It doesn't take much listening to realize that Arrival is a masterpiece and Journey are pop-rock practitioners of the highest order.

Arrival switches effortlessly between dealing out ballads and rockers, making this a truly great record.

Although three LPs and a greatest-hits compilation preceded it, Arrival is aptly titled, as this album announces the band's move beyond bubblegum.

At their best, as on Arrival, ABBA were as mysterious as Bowie, as rococo as Phil Spector, as unbearably sad as the Smiths.

A definitive example of a record you need not laugh at, but laugh (and dance) along with.

And finally ABBA truly “arrives.” The title here, of course refers to the helicopter picture on the front cover while also referring to the gorgeous title track. It also refers to ABBA finally reaching the state of perfection they would achieve for two albums and sporadically throughout their career.

So, what rating do I give this record? Well, an 8 and three quarters? I think they deserve that for this perfect pop LP moment that is 'Arrival'.

Arrival is Muzak mesmerizing in its modality. By reducing their already vapid lyrics to utter irrelevance, lead singers Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog are liberated to natter on in their shrill voices without regard to emotion or expression, and the language barrier is broken.

The band’s fourth album Arrival can been equated to going through a day. As the sun rises, the album does something similar in opening with “When I Kissed the Teacher.” It has an acoustic riff plays that will stay in your head all day and cause you to be whistling it. Reminiscent a tad of Fleetwood Mac, the piano is an integral part of the song that ties together the pop like lyrics.

October 1976 was a watershed for ABBA. It was the month that saw the release of their 'Arrival' album - the record that took their song writing and studio achievements to new levels.

[Arrival] is a fresh and sprightly 30-year-old that again completely dazzles you with its musical strength . . . Swedish pop music has not been as impeccably and successfully crafted after Arrival.

Arrival is the album that contains a good bunch of their best singles, especially with "Fernando" issued as a bonus track on the latest CD editions. Even more special ... and especially ... when considering that this is the album with "Dancing Queen" on it.

For ’70s pop-disco, it sends a striking message.

This album is ahead of its time. A really solid record with catchy songs and some versatility. "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is a definite highlight for me.

Was ABBA at it's peak here? Quite possibly! This is a very strong pop album. There are few studio albums in pop music that are so filled with catchy listenable hooks .

While usually nostalgia’s enemy, Arrival brings out the pre-teen in me, the one who still believed in archetypal love and who appreciated the dear value of longing and loss with an innocent heart.

Personally, I do like ABBA and I think there was a lot of talent in the group although occasionally there was a lack of expression in the vocals and the songs a tad formulaic. It’s also really pretty catchy, accepting and if you say there is no talent, you are emphatically wrong.

As a body of work, Arrival, showcases a band that was arguably at the pinnacle of their success. I do class their later four albums to be superior in terms of production quality and musicality, but Arrival heralded Abba’s arrival.
