Alive! remains Kiss' greatest album ever. An essential addition to any rock collection.

2004 - And that's why Kiss Alive! retains its charm: it never fails to recall a time when partying seemed like innocent fun rather than pathological escapism. And that, ultimately, is the myth that rock and roll lives to preserve.

minus the impact of gaudy painted faces and stage theatrics, the band must be judged solely for its music. It’s awful. Criminally repetitive, thuddingly monotonous.

As a result, I found that the music by itself didn't satisfy my expectations. From the distinct sound of a firework cannon at the start of "Deuce," I found myself sitting at my computer itching to type "Kiss live videos" into my search bar. I sensed that by just listening to the live recordings, I wasn't quite getting the full experience.

2015 - Alive! is a crown jewel of stadium rock, a big gamble that paid off in spades. 40 years on and it still sounds like a sneak peak of the best thing you’ve never heard of yet.
